Mombasa

Mombasa is the largest port on the east coast of Africa serving five different countries. Hot and humid it sits at the beginning of the only railway, which crosses the Kenyan interior and was built by the British in 1901. The port is situated on an island, which is linked to the mainland by bridges and surrounded by a natural harbour, where traditional sailing shows mix with commercial shipping. Mombasa's main attraction is Fort Jesus, where the remnants of the commanding 16th century fort once protected the entrance of the harbour and now relay the story of a historic struggle for control of the coast between the Arabs and the Portuguese.

Morocco

Morocco is perhaps the most diverse of holiday locations, with hot desert sands, treks through the mountainous regions and skiing available. Fez and Marrakech offer the chance to explore enchanted and timeless medinas where you can step from today's world straight back into medieval times and if you tire of hiking the High Atlas Mountains, then perhaps a trek across the golden sands of the Western Sahara is more to your taste.

Agadir

The new and modern city of Agadir is just south of Marrakech and with magnificent sandy beaches it is fast developing into Morocco's major resort town. After an earthquake in 1961 that killed fifteen thousand people, most of Agadir's historic heritage was wiped out. Originally an important seaport and centre for caravans traversing the Sahara, the city has now been rebuilt and modelled to be a tourist destination and fishing port. With three hundred days of sunshine a year and twenty thousand hotel beds, Agadir takes on a quarter of the tourism trade in Morocco and is favoured for luxury package holidays and as a starting point for excursions into the desert.

Egypt

Holidays in Egypt offer images of great pyramids, Pharaohs, hieroglyphic decorated Egyptian temples and an ancient civilisation. And at the centre of these great civilisations lies the Nile River that has influenced their economics, social life, politics and religion. It is the oldest travel destination on earth: Greek and Roman travellers came in 430 BC to wonder at some of the very sights that make it a modern travel destination today. The magnificence of the painted Valley of the Kings, exquisite temples and the pyramids were all sought-after subjects of admiration, and many were already 2,500 years old!
