Information on Alaska
Populated by few people, but abundant with wildlife, Alaska is more than double the size of Texas, making it the largest of the US states. It offers unique experiences such as walking in unspoilt wilderness, spectacular cruising through the fjords of the Inside Passage, frontier towns rich in gold rush history, glaciers, and moose wandering the streets of downtown Anchorage.
Alaska still offers visitors a sense of undiscovered wilderness and the feeling of promise and hope inspired during the gold rush years is still in evidence today. The 'Last Frontier' feel of Alaska attracts visitors today as it did the pioneers in the past.
Typical Alaskan scenery of mountains, glaciers, forests and fjords can be seen at its best in the Southeast of the country. The marine highways epitomise the Alaskan way of life and make it the World's best cruise destination. Land lovers are also drawn to the isolated towns and lack of roads which make Alaska such a unique place, as well as Mount Mckinley whose snow-capped peaks can be found in Denali National Park.
Regardless of the harsh winters and relatively high prices, Alaska offers visitors a glimpse of the true last frontier and a chance to experience a life lived in the wilderness.
