Magalluf And Palma Nova
Magalluf and Palma Nova are the most popular and largest resorts on the island of Mallorca (Majorca), due to endless white beaches, a vast range of entertainment and a wild and active nightlife. Magalluf has seen some improvements in its architecture over recent years by the removal of sixty apartment blocks, which have been replaced with an attractive promenade that is lined with palm trees. Both resorts are located next to each other and are the party part of Majorca, mostly catering to British visitors, especially the younger generations. With sun, sand and low priced San Miguel the resorts are the perfect place to relax on the beautiful beaches during the day and to wake up on an evening for some adventures in the busy bars and nightclubs. The majority of Magalluf is geared to young Brits, so it's not an ideal destination for people looking for tranquil holiday, however there is a chance for relaxation available in the resorts.
Central Magalluf is where the main shopping area is situated; with a promenade lined with tourist shops selling everything form beachwear to souvenirs. Palma offers a better shopping experience, with a variety of shops and a market in Calvia selling leather goods, fine porcelain and jewellery. There are excellent supermarkets in both resorts, selling a wide range of well-known produce and low priced alcohol and cigarettes.
Due to the size of the both Palma Nova and Magalluf, there are many restaurants of every variety, including Chinese, Indian, Italian, Mexican and Spanish. Fast food, cafes and pub meals are available in most areas of the resorts and there are some excellent restaurants in Andraitx and Palma. The choice of places to eat are a high point in the resorts, there are venues to cater to every culinary taste in these two main resorts and the surrounding area.
The clubbing capital of Majorca is Magalluf, which has a choice of the best clubs on the island. In addition there is a variety of hotel entertainment, which ranges from amazing to amazingly horrendous. Most hotel entertainment is free, although you will have to pay to visit Pirates, but it is worth the cost if your not easily offended. The BCM nightclub is the largest and attracts worldwide DJ's through it's doors and other clubs such as School Disco, Bananas, Carwash and Boomerang are also a hive of activity, with loud music, packed dance floors and the electric energy of youth and sangria mixing. Before the clubs open for the night there are a variety of popular bars, such as Panama Jacks, BCM Cafe, Lennon's and Eva's and Bar 29.
The panoramic beaches set the scene for the daytime activities in Palma Nova and Magalluf, water sports and boat trips are regularly available throughout the day. The boat rides range from trips in the 'Nemo' glass sided submarine to 'booze cruises' along to coast and water sports range from scuba diving and snorkelling to surfing and sailing. There is a water park near the resort, fully equipped with water slides for all ages and a free bus to and from it every Wednesday. Other activities available on the resorts include bowling and tennis, with golf, karting and cycling available near the resort. Places of cultural and historical interest located in the resort area are Andraitx and Calvia and inland the island's scenic interior offers the chance to explore the island and to escape from the madding crowd.
