Palma De Mallorca
The capital of Mallorca is the cosmopolitan city of Palma, which is a truly Spanish city with a labyrinth of narrow streets, a hive of bustling shopping centres on modern boulevards and beautifully restored buildings all encased in its historic city walls. The Moors controlled most of Mallorca during the 9th and 13th centuries, until the occupation of Jaume I of Aragon and Palma maintains it's Moorish heritage in the historical relics and artefacts. The remains from Palma's wealth and prominence during the 15th century are also visible in the city today, dating back to when Palma became the main port between Africa and Europe. The Bahia de Palma became a royal retreat for Spanish royalty Fernando and Isabel in their time, which has made the resort a popular holiday destination for the rich and famous. Set on the enchanting bay Bahia de Palma, the city has retained a local flavour despite constant occupation from invading countries and foreign tourists and you can still hear the native dialect of mallorquin in the tapas bars and cafes line the old quarter.
