Puerto Pollensa
Puerto Pollensa is a relaxing and tranquil resort, with a long curving bay lined with stretches of white-sanded beaches and set with an enchanting backdrop of the Boquer mountains in northern Majorca. The resort evolved from an old fishing port, which originally served the scenic Roman town of Pollensa. It is a much more sedate resort than Palma Nova and Magalluf, with a relaxing and laid back atmosphere that attracts families, couples and visitors wishing the escape to paradise. The majority of visitors choose all inclusive holiday packages to Puerto Pollensa, although renting the sophisticated villas located on the Pine Walk promenade are becoming a popular alternative. The Cala San Vicente resort is situated beside Puerto Pollensa and offers a similar laid-back atmosphere. Both resorts include a range of cafes, shops, elegant hotels, beautiful beaches and enchanting sunrises across the magnificent bay and Puerto Pollensa is quiet with un-crowded beaches, even in the height of the season.
The tranquil resort of Puerto Pollensa has a good supply of boutiques and shops, which cater to visitors and nearby local markets, offer many delights, with a wide range of products, local crafts and a lively atmosphere every Sunday in the old town of Pollensa. In the port itself, there is a market every Wednesday also offering many different types of produce; including fresh food, crafts, gifts, ceramics and leather goods. Overall although the resort is not a Mecca for shopping, it does offer a good range of shopping experiences to satisfy most visitors to the resort.
Some of the best fish restaurants in Majorca reside in the resort of Puerto Pollensa and there is a wide selection of restaurants to cater to every taste, including Italian, Chinese, local tapas bars and pizza parlours and the resort also houses a Kashmiri restaurant for those who wish to broaden their culinary horizons. Unlike the more lively resorts, the chance to experience delicious culinary delights is intensified in the relaxing and luxurious atmospheres of the harbour restaurants and pavement cafes.
The nightlife in the resort is also laid back and relaxed, visitors mostly prefer to take a stroll from the marina to Pine Walk after a delicious dinner and visitors can choose to watch the world go by from one of the many pavement cafes, or to be entertained at one of the hotels in the resort. Puerto Pollensa does not cater to the techno clubbing crowds, although nightclubs are easily commuted to in neighbouring Alcudia and like all resorts, there are a variety of bars and beautiful beaches to explore. In addition the old town of Pollensa and the resort offer a range of festivals, with bonfires, dancing on the streets, parades, concerts and carnivals virtually all year round.
Water sports and beach activities including scuba diving, snorkelling and sailing are all available in Puerto Pollensa. There are also a variety of tours and trips available, including glass bottom boat trips, hiking along the scenic mountain trails of the Boquer mountain range and excursions and tours of the lighthouse at Cap Formentor. The neighbouring Cala San Vicente houses some ancient burial caves on its outskirts and there is ample opportunity to explore the island. The resort is mostly geared towards relaxation on the beautiful beaches, but there is also the opportunity for more adventurous visitors to explore the island and it's hidden treasures.
