Playa Blanca

Situated at the most Southerly point of the island, Playa Blanca is a small resort ideally suited to families and couples looking to enjoy a relaxing break in a compact destination. The good selection of cafes and beaches along the promenade provide an adequate choice of entertainment, whilst the unspoilt harbour offers more traditional cuisine. The main attraction of the resort is the Papagayo beaches; just four miles way from the centre of Playa Blanca; these stretches of golden sand are amongst the best to be found anywhere in the Canary Islands.

Entertainment
As with most of the Spanish resorts, duty-free shopping is a popular pastime in Playa Blanca, although serious shopaholics may want to make the trip out to Puerto del Carmen where the choice tends to be broader. Electrical items and souvenirs aside, the Sunday market in Teguise is a good place to pick up some mementos, and test your bartering skills!

If you are intent on topping up your tan, the regular boat trips out to the Papagayo beaches are the perfect opportunity to sunbathe whilst also taking in the stunning coastline. For a more active day out you may want to try some of the many water sports on offer at the harbour in Playa Blanca, or head over to Timanfaya National Park (just 10 miles away) to admire the volcanic landscape from camel back. The bustling resort of Fuerteventura is just 6 miles from the coast from Playa Blanca and can be reached by the ferries departing daily from the harbour.

The nightlife in Playa Blanca is somewhat sedate compared to the charms of Puerto del Carmen, although serious partygoers can get easily find a taxi for the half hour journey to the busier resort. Those who prefer a quieter night out can spend a pleasant evening choosing between the array of restaurants serving anything from chips to local dishes through to some excellent Italian bistros. Restaurants on the promenade overlook the harbour and across the bay to the lights of Fuerteventura, although be sure to take cash as some of the smaller eateries do not accept payments by card. IF you do want to make a night of it most of the hotels in the resort offer entertainment in the evenings, which can be anything from a disco to a hypnotist.
