Playa De Las Americas And Los Cristianos
Playa de las Americas has evolved into one of Europe's most popular package holiday destinations. Situated on the Southwestern tip of Tenerife there is plenty of cheap accommodation for tourists looking for some affordable fun in the sun. The vast choices of beaches, bars, nightclubs and restaurants make this the liveliest resort in the Canary Islands, or for a slightly more sedate pace of holiday why not try the quieter region of Los Cristianos just 25 minutes walk-away.
Shopping Opportunities:
The San Eugene Centre is a duty-free shopping mecca for tourists with electrical shops, clothes and jewellery at every turn. Those looking for a bargain will need some good bartering-skills, although if you have no sucess in the first shop, the one next-door is likely to sell the same things. Serious hagglers will enjoy a trip to the Torviscas Market on a Thursday or Saturday, but get there early to snap up the best bargains.
Activities and Excursions:
Most of the beaches in the resort are black and so provide a stunning contrast to the turquoise waters. Once the heat gets too much tourists can take to the sea for a swim, or the more adventurous can try their hand at scuba diving, jet skiing, banana boat rides and windsurfing. If it is less energetic entertainment that you are seeking then the regular boat trips around the island are very popular and range from dolphin-spotting trips to all-day booze cruises.
For a change from the beach you can head out to the Aqua Park where dolphin shows are on at regular times every day. The very adventurous can try bungee-jumping at the popular Sky Park or for a more sedate afternoon why not take in a round at the 18 hole gold course in Los Cristianos, or even explore the stunning Mount Tiede National Park by camel back?
Eating Out:
Playa de las Americas caters for every palette, from the chip-obsessed to those in search of fine dining and local dishes. There are fast food joint open all night for partygoers in need of sustenance, but for a more leisurely meal head out to Los Cristianos or the marina in Puerto Colon where there is a choice of lovely restaurants.
Nightlife:
This resort has a legendary nightlife and is the main attraction for many visitors. The Patch is the place to get the evening started with a range of popular dance bars playing music from when happy hour starts, often in the early afternoon! As the night goes on and the party really gets started, Veronicas is where most of the late clubs and bars can be found. This strip of bars gets very busy and is full of holiday reps offering two for one drinks and special offers, Busbys, Tramps and Bobbys are the most popular clubs in the resorts and play a range of dance, R&B and pop music. Los Cristianos also has a selection of bars and a late-night disco and offers a good alternative for people wanting a quieter night.
