Kos Town

Kos Town was originally an ancient port and is the capital and main town on the Island of Kos. Once occupied by the Egyptians, Venetians, Romans, Ottomans and the Knights of St John the town is rich in historical ruins and artefacts. Some of the sights include the ruins of an amphitheatre, a Roman baths and the impressive fifteenth century castle constructed by the Knights of St John. Despite some tourist developments the town retains a sophisticated and cosmopolitan feel, with a varied mixture of culture. The nightlife is lively and entertaining, with many bars around the harbour varying from small pubs to chic bars and a wonderful blend of restaurants offering a wide range of culinary delights. The harbour itself contains traditional fishing boats and a handful of sleek yachts, with a narrow sandy beach nearby. However there several spectacular beaches only a bus ride away, and the town still operates as a port and is ideal for cruising and sailing excursions.
