2002 saw the airport being renamed in honour of John Lennon, a founding member of the Liverpudlian band The Beatles, twenty-two years after Lennon's death. A 7 ft (2.1 m) tall bronze statue of the local icon stands overlooking the check-in hall. On the roof is painted the airport's motto, a line from Lennon's song "Imagine": "Above us, only sky". The internal layout maps of the terminal building highlight the locations of amenities such as WCs as well as shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and other services such as ticket desks and information kiosks.
