Alicante
Alicante is the central point of the Costa Blanca holiday resorts and is located on the east coast of Spain, on a bay nestled between two capes. African influences are evident in the city, with native females attired in caftans and the variety of African carvings on sale along the coastline. The older part of the city however is lined with Baroque buildings amongst the relics of the once major seaport. Overall the city is lively and brimming with lush parks and gardens, a variety of shops, impressive marble plazas and the Explanada d'Espanya harbour, with a range of pavement cafes to stop for an ice cream in along the way. Alicante's main attractions to visitors are the spectacular beaches, however the city itself also caters to visitors with cultural and historical tastes, and the fiesta of Saint Joan in June remains unrivalled for traditional Spanish entertainment.
