Winter HolidaysWinter is a great time to go on holiday; whether you are looking to enjoy some sunshine, or hit the slopes on a skiing trip, getting away during the cold, darker months is always a welcome diversion. A winter holiday is also a great way to keep the kids entertained during the lead-up to Christmas when tensions can run high as the excitement mounts! If it is winter sun that you are after than you cannot do much better than cruises and all-inclusive breaks, both offering great value for money. Don't be fooled by the old stereotypes of cruise ships full of golden oldies ballroom dancing and playing bridge, there is a whole new breed of cruiser that caters for families and groups looking for a bit more action. Whether it is waterslides in the pool, basketball tournaments on the deck or nightclubs below board, there is bound to be an activity to suit your group, and that is before you even consider the excursions to shore. Cruise ships are ideally suited for families in that everything is self-contained. Parents can relax by the pool safe in the knowledge that the kids are well occupied in one of the many activities arranged by staff and cannot have wandered off very far. There is also plenty to keep childless groups occupied with non-stop happy hours on board, all night casinos and some fantastic duty-free shopping to indulge in. The legendary non-stop dining available on cruise ships also means that even the fussiest of eaters will not go hungry, at any time of day or night! All-inclusive packages are a great alternative for sun-seekers looking for a bit more flexibility. Although it may involve a longer flight time to find some sun out of season it will be well worth the effort once you are relaxing on golden sands looking out at the turquoise ocean. Again children are well catered for, either playing in the pool or partaking in hotel's kids clubs, the cost of which is often included in your overall package. For a more active winter holiday why not consider a skiing trip? Many families can be put off a week on the slopes thinking that it may be too dangerous and stressful with kids in tow, but holidaying as a group of families is the perfect way to ensure everybody has a good time. Most resorts offer ski classes for even the tiniest of tots and parents are welcome to stay around to keep an eye out and offer some encouragement. Children may feel more confident with some friends from home around, and adults can take it in turns to babysit whilst the others show off their own skiing prowess. A lot of the bigger resorts will also offer alternative activities if the snow isn't good or you fancy a change from all that hard work. Snowboarding lessons are always a popular alternative to skiing, whilst toboggan runs offer a less energetic way of getting down the mountain. Off the slopes there is the resort village to explore where shops, cafes and restaurants tend to spring up in abundance. In terms of accommodation lodges are a popular choice with groups who can take it in turns to cook, or even hire a chef. Or for true indulgence and relaxation you can book into a hotel where all you have to worry about it whether to have another hot chocolate or a mulled wine! |
